  • So long as you have not owned a Citi checking account in the last 180 days, are a primary Citi credit cardmember and received a communication from Citibank, you can participate in the Member AA Miles Checking Offer.
  • Unless expressly prohibited, Eligible Customers can participate in other Citibank AAdvantage American Airlines promotions, which award miles; however, no Eligible Customer can be awarded more than 120,000 AAdvantage miles total (multiple awards allowed) within any 365-day period.

The Citigold account for the 60K bonus requires an average monthly balance of $200,000. The Basic Checking account also has a very small bonus so it’s not worth the trouble. So let’s look at the other two options.

The 50K AA miles bonus I think might be the best option. The account has a $30 monthly fee (waived with $50K balance), so you will have to pay a few months worth of fees until you get the bonus. Most likely it will cost you $90-$120.

The other option would be the 30K AA miles bonus, if you don’t want to pay any fees. The Citibank account has a $25 fee waived with $10K balance. You’ll just forfeit you interest that you might be getting somewhere else.

It also might be worth asking to have a month’s fee waived. Bank will do that for customers occasionally.

Your Checking Account must remain open and in good standing from the time it’s opened until you receive your Bonus.

Guru’s Wrap-Up

These are good bonuses from Citi if you’re looking for some extra American Airlines AAdvantage miles. But the offer is targeted, even though there’s a public page. You must have received the offer directly from Citi to be eligible to participate. Check your Citi accounts and hopefully you see the offer there.

The 60,000 miles bonus is only available to those who have $200,000 or more in Citi accounts, but the other bonuses are for everyone. If you prefer cash instead of miles, check out this bonus for up to $1,500 for personal checking accounts, and $2,000 for business checking.

If this bonus is not for you, then you can check our the list of available bank bonuses. And, if you’re new to bank account bonuses, you can learn more about churning bank accounts here.
